The Reformer

The most widely used piece of apparatus, and probably the most important, is the Reformer.
It consists of a platform that moves back and forth along a carriage. Resistance is provided by the exerciser's body weight and by springs attached to the carriage and platform.

By lying supine on the reformer you can support the spine while concentrating on engaging the correct core muscles and retrain neuro-muscular patterning.

Hands in straps series:
Curl up with single leg stretch is a fundamental exercise working on both upper and lower torso and limbs.
It focuses on working lats, triceps, deeper abdominals and legs.
Co-ordinated with breathing this exercise allows full body integration.

The Footage below is of Joesph Pilates at age 64, introducing the Universal Reformer to the son of Dr. Hillel.

Enjoy!
